Wendron Cricket Club was formed as Porkellis Cricket Club in 1949. The club enjoyed a number of successful years in the early 1950’s playing on a number of different farmers’ fields in the Porkellis & Carnkie districts. After the 1976 season the Club was in danger of folding when it lost the use of a field at Bellevue. Determined efforts by members ensured that this did not happen. Three fields were located at Underlane and funds were raised, hedges removed and a Wicket prepared, so that by the start of the following season the ground had been purchased and made ready for cricket.
A clubhouse with changing rooms, showers, kitchen, bar and function room was built entirely by voluntary labour and opened in 1982. This provided top-class facilities for players and supporters alike. In 1991 the building was extended to include a steward’s flat, a small dining area and a match officials’ changing room.

In 1986 a Football Section was formed to play occasional friendly fixtures, but has since grown into the most vibrant part of the Club. The 2nd & 3rd teams played regularly in the Falmouth/Helston League, the 1st XI becoming Division 2 Champions in 1990. Matches were played on a hired field approximately half a mile from the Clubhouse. It was vital for the Club’s future to develop a football pitch on our main site to give the football section greater security and enable it to progress to senior status and there are now two pitches at club level.
Senior status came in the 1998/99 season along with entry to Jolly's Cornwall Combination League and this was the beginning of the present standing the club now enjoys.
Success has been cyclical, but 2007 marked promotion following the restructure of Cornish football into the newly formed South West Peninsula League Division 1. Promotion again to South West Peninsula Premier in 2018/19 was the first time the club had competed at step 6 of the National League system, with a 3rd place finish.
